Workshop Details
This workshop will introduce students to block printing with the linocut technique and fabric paint. Fabric will be provided for experimentation but please feel free to bring your own materials to print on, tote bags work great. We will discuss design plans, repeating motifs, how to transfer the design to a block, carving techniques and printing. Please bring inspiration or completed designs (maximum dimensions, 4 x 6). additional $10 materials fee with additional blocks available to purchase at the workshop. Following this workshop, there will be an additional session held drop-in style to embellish prints with embroidery, beads and sequins. Ink will be one colour, all the other colours are from embellishments like embroidery stitches. Bring your own materials or pay what you can. More details will be given in the first session. About the Instructor: Flannery Surette is an anthropological archaeologist and is an expert on the textiles of the Peruvian Andes. She has over ten years experience in textile craft including spinning, weaving, embroidery and knitting and has an ongoing interest in the reconstruction of traditional techniques based on archaeological discoveries.
